Lim still pursuing Johari?

An upset Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is said to be on a relentless pursuit to throw out PKR councillor Johari Kassim from Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP).

Sources said he had directed the state secretary, Zainal Rahim Seman, to issue written instructions to the MPSP president, Mokhtar Mohd Jait, to bar Johari from attending any council meetings.

The matter is now under the purview of the state executive councillor in charge of local government affairs and traffic management and also DAP state chief Chow Kon Yeow.

It is learnt that Zainal may issue the written directive to Mokhtar within the next few days.

Lim, also the DAP secretary-general, is determined to “teach Johari a lesson” for openly defying his decision to appoint Mokhtar to head MPSP early this month,

The chief minister is unhappy that PKR had refused to heed to his call to sack Johari as councillor.


Johari and seven other PKR councillors have boycotted Mokhtar’s swearing-in on June 4 in protest against the state government decision to appoint senior public officers to helm local municipalities.

Who is the boss?
The DAP-dominated Pakatan Rakyat state government has also appointed senior civil servant Tan Cheng Chui as the new Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) president.

Apart from Johari, the others were Che Mat Hashim, Amir Ghazali, Mahamad Hashim, Rynu Shanmugam, Goh Choon Aik, Mohd Kamil Abu Bakar and Zaini Awang.

The boycott has inevitably caused Lim a bruised ego, and he wants to show Johari “who’s the boss”.

For record, Johari has attended several council meetings since the controversy erupted early this month.

Lim’s unprecedented move to deploy administrative rule to punish Johari, however, is set to meet tough resistance from the state PKR.

During a meeting among state PKR’s parliamentarians, legislators and councillors on Friday, it is learnt that the state party leadership had decided to adopt a tough stance not to yield to DAP leadership demand to force Johari to resign as councillor.

Those at the meeting, despite having difference of opinions and views over the political controversy, decided anonymously to throw their weight around the embattled Johari, the state PKR and Tasek Gelugor division committee member.

State leaders also decided to inform, in unequivocal terms, to Lim soon that the controversy shall be best resolved through the Pakatan state council leadership.

PKR leaders defend Johari
A source said PKR leadership thought that Lim was wrong in trying to use an administrative rule to resolve a political problem.

“The leadership thought it should be resolved through a political forum,” said the PKR source.

PKR leaders are determined to defend Johari merely because he had only defied a state decision to protect the party interest.

The state leadership has decided not to take any action on Johari during a meeting held the next day after the Johari’s MPSP boycott.

Although the matter was referred to the party national political bureau, headed by deputy president Syed Husin Ali, albeit under pressure from Lim, the bureau also emulated the state stand.

Meanwhile, a portal blogspot has emerged to carry out a character assassination campaign on Johari, PKR state chief Zahrain Hashim, secretary Mustafa Kamal Mohd Yusoff and several other leaders.

Quoting its source of information is from Malaysiakini, the bloggers are carrying out a campaign in similar modus operandi executed so effectively on former Deputy Chief Minister 1 Fairus Khairuddin.

PKR leadership is now checking on the bloggers, believed to be party members linked to a state executive councillor.

Zahrain is now under intense internal pressure to quickly identify and take drastic action, including party membership termination, on these anonymous bloggers.

I was told the government through UEM has appointed Maunsall Zakaria Sharma as the submission structural consulting engineer for the Penang 2nd Bridge.

MZS was also the same consulting engineer for the MRR2 project which was later diagnosed with design error.

The repair and strengthening of MRR2 was said to have cost RM80 million and since it was attributed as design fault that contributed to the structural failure there exist a design guarantee bond, provided under the contractual terms, by the contractor and also a professional indemnity bond provided by the design engineer to cover and indemnify the government in such event.

Interestingly, it seems the government was gracious and forgiving, and disquietly forgetful too.

Pemimpin PKR ada isu di hotel Jawi...Aminah.

Walaupun mendakwa menerima ugutan melalui telefon, Aminah Abdullah tidak mudah mengundur. Beliau malah terus menyerang PKR dengan mendakwa pemimpin kanan parti ada isu di sebuah hotel.

Calon bebas itu menambah, Bernama melaporkan, beliau akan membongkar satu peristiwa yang dikaitkan dengan Pengerusi PKR Pulau Pinang, Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim dalam masa terdekat.

"Saya nak ingatkan Zahrain supaya jangan mencabar saya. Saya nak tanya sama ada dia masih ingatkah lagi dengan peristiwa di sebuah hotel di Jawi pada 2007?" katanya, dikenali juga sebagai Kak Min.

"Kak Min minta dia jawab dalam tempoh 24 jam dan jika tidak, Kak Min akan dedahkan kepada umum. Maruah dibayar dengan maruah," Aminah dipetik berkata selepas berkempen mengedar posternya dengan simbol kunci menjelang pilihanraya kecil DUN Penanti, Ahad ini.

Menurut agensi berita itu, Aminah berkata beliau telah memaklumkan kes Zahrain, sekarang ahli parlimen Bayan Lepas, kepada penasihat parti Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim dan presidennya Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

"Tapi tiada tindakan diambil. Saya ada faktanya," Aminah dilaporkan berkata.

Beliau diminta mengulas kenyataan Zahrain semalam bahawa PKR sedang menimbang tindakan undang-undang jika bekas pemimpinnya itu terus membuat pelbagai dakwaan terhadap parti itu.

Aminah menambah, beliau tidak akan menarik balik kenyataannya atau memohon maaf kerana beliau berada di pihak yang benar.

Paris-based Agence Jouin Manku took on its first large-scale integrated architectural and interior design commission in 2003, when YTL Design Group from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, invited it to design the residence of a Malaysian power family.

Completed in the latter part of 2008, the residence is the ultimate expression of the taste, influence and industrial-scale capabilities of the prominent family whose entrepreneurial activities have shaped Kuala Lumpur’s skyline.

Three generations of the family inhabit the 3,000 square-meter residence designed to accommodate both private and public functions.

The building includes nine bedrooms, two family rooms, a family kitchen and a private dining area, a family library, a game room, a study, a public reception area, a formal dining room, a ballroom, chapel, 21 bathrooms, a swimming pool, two guest suites plus indoor private and guest parking.

The initial sketches exploring the owners’ usage requirements reveal resemblances to the boring stacked-boxes look still so ubiquitous in residential architecture. And while traces of the “heaped trailers” syndrome remain in the finished building, this is not the Jetsons, neither are we looking at EPCOT, Tomorrowland or the 1964 New York World's Fair.

We are in the lush vegetation of a posh Kuala Lumpur residential area, and in spite of the boxiness of the structure, an elegant circular softness manages to permeate the sightlines and key details of the building, making it an agreeable part of its landscape.

Inside, prominent examples of this curvilinear elegance include the amazing staircases resembling the inside of a shell when viewed from above, and the round ballroom chandelier of 13,000 custom-designed undulating petals of unglazed cast porcelain biscuit.

The curved walls both inside and out have a functional purpose of providing privacy and enclosing each function gently in its own space. The overall sweeping feel inside the spaces invites the viewer in and creates soft, arching vistas.

The concept consists of three layers: the base for public functions, the ring for guests and the private house for the family.

The inside of the magnificent residence is gorgeous with its high ceilings, large windows and abundance of light. White color and natural wood are dominant elements but they allow the view from the vast, mostly retractable, windows to remain the main visual attraction.

The residence is also a wonderful study of contrasts between inside and outside, private and public, traditional and ultra modern, man-made and natural.

YTL Design Group of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was the architect of record. The Agence Jouin Manku design team included Patrick Jouin, Sanjit Manku, Yann Brossier (architect), Richard Perron (designer). Officina del Paesaggio from Lugano, Switzerland was in charge of the landscape design, and L’Observatoire, New York, USA handled the lighting.

I just joined a global movement to free Burmese democracy leader and Nobel Peace prize winner, Aung San Suu Kyi and 2,100 other political prisoners and I thought that you would want to get involved.

The only crime Aung San Suu Kyi and her fellow prisoners have committed was to peacefully call for democracy. She and thousands of fellow monks and students have been imprisoned for bravely challenging the brutal military regime with peaceful calls for democracy.

On May 14th, Aung San Suu Kyi was arrested and sent to jail to charged in connection with an American man who allegedly sneaked uninvited into the compound where she is being held in Yangon. The charges are absurd -- it is the Burmese military, now charging her with breach of house arrest, that are responsible for the security of the compound. They area pretext to keep her detained until after elections which are set for 2010.

The Burmese regime is renown for its vicious repression of any threat to full military control - thousands are in jail in inhumane conditions and denied any medical care, there are ongoing abuses of human rights, there is violent repression of ethnic groups, and over a million have been forced into refuge across the border.

Aung San Suu Kyi's is the greatest threat to the junta's hold on power. Her moral leadership of the democracy movement and the legacy of her landslide victory in 1990 elections means that she is the only figure who could face down the military in elections next year. She has been detained over and over again since 1988 -- under house arrest and allowed no contact with the outside world. But this scandalous new detention in the notorious Insein Prison without medical care could be very dangerous because she is seriously ill.

Sources say that the military regime is fearful of this unified and massive online call to the UN -- over 160 Burma exile and solidarity groups in 24 countries are participating in the campaign. And the Secretary General and key regional players that are looking to re-engage with the Burmese regime, can influence the fate of these prisoners. Last week Secretary General Ban Ki Moon said: 'Aung San Suu Kyi and all those that have a contribution to make to the future of their country must be free'. Let's overwhelm him with a global call to urgently act on his words and stop the arrests and brutality:
